He Chuan is a university professor by day. But when winter comes, he relentlessly searches for China’s most beautiful, daunting ice climbs. Here, he tackles the 140-meter WI6 route ‘Merry Christmas.’

“Searching for Christmas Tree,” by Lie Feng, tells the story of a mysterious ice climb tucked in the country’s northern mountains. Chuan and Liu Yang needed to first locate the route, then climb it when the conditions were perfect.

The video was nominated for the 2017 Banff Mountain Film World Tour. It’s an incredible tale of perseverance, dedication, and epic ice climbing.
