Lake St. Clair
Bass fishing has been very good in Lake St. Clair. Smallies have been hitting everything from tubebaits to hard plastics fished in Anchor Bay. Water clarity was down slightly but fish were still biting. If you’re heading out for muskies try either Anchor Bay or directly out from the Clinton River Spillway. A couple of walleyes have been caught in Michigan waters out near the St. Clair Light when trolling a crawler harness and bottom bouncer.

Luna Pier Area
Walleye fishing remains good in Lake St. Clair. ’Eyes have been caught off Luna Pier in 16 to 18 feet of water. Anglers were getting two to four fish on spoons and Bandits. In Brest Bay, a few fish were taken off Buoys 1 and 2 by anglers trolling a crawler harness. Anglers across the lake were marking perch but catch rates were light. Largemouth bass are hitting top-water baits in the canals at Luna Pier.

SOUTHWESTERN LP
Kalamazoo Area
Fishing has been hit-or-miss in the Kalamazoo area. Bluegills are hitting on most inland lakes including Eagle, North and Barton. The fish are suspended over deep water and hitting Bo’s Bluegill Busters trolled 15 to 20 feet down. Bass fishing has been slow, but is starting to improve. Steelhead fishing has been good on the Kalamazoo River below the Allegan Dam, and a few fish have been caught in Lake Michigan off the piers at St. Joseph and Grand Haven. Perch fishing has also been hot one day and cold the next. Good numbers of catfish have been caught at night in the Kalamazoo River.

Grand Rapids Area
Water levels were still low on the Grand River. Summer steelhead fishing has been slow, but some nice catfish have been caught, especially at night.

CENTRAL LP
Saginaw Bay Area
Walleye and some perch were found in Lake Huron’s Saginaw Bay near the Spark Plug (Buoys 11 and 12) in 25 feet of water. A few perch have been caught off Linwood around Sailboat Buoy F. Most of the walleye trollers from the east side from Quanicassee to Bay Port were crossing the Sand Bar and fishing in 25 to 30 feet of water out in mid-bay north of the Spark Plug toward Buoys 1 and 2.

Baldwin Area
Panfish are hunkered down in 14 to 20 feet of water on most inland lakes, but the bass bite has been pretty good. Bass were hitting on Wolf, Idlewild and Big Star lakes. Trout fishing has been pretty good on the Pere Marquette River. Terrestrials, nymphs and streamers with gold in them have produced good results.

Grand Haven Area
Decent catches of lake trout were taken on Lake Michigan on the bottom in 110 to 160 feet of water on yellow or green Spin-N-Glos. Chinook numbers are slowly picking up with fish taken 35 to 90 feet down in 80 to 150 feet of water with orange or blue spoons and white flies. Pier anglers caught a few yellow perch on minnows. Steelhead action has been hit-or-miss.

Caseville Area
Walleye fishing remains pretty good in Lake Huron at Caseville. Anglers report good action in the Slot, at Sand Point Buoy and off Oak Point. Crawler harnesses and crankbaits have been taking fish. Walleyes, catfish, bass and pike have been caught in Caseville harbor.

Harbor Beach Area
The fish have been a little scattered on Lake Huron because of the recent winds and storms. Best place to start for lake trout would be in 80 feet of water straight out and north of the harbor. Try some dodgers with Spin-N-Glos near the bottom or clean spoons from top to bottom and work your way out to deeper water until you find fish. For steelhead, use bright colored spoons and offshore boards with 3, 5, 7 and 10 colors of line. For walleyes, try closer to shore with small spoons, a crawler harness or Hot-N-Tots.

NORTHWESTERN LP
Traverse City Area
Walleye fishing has been decent in South Lake Leelanau. Those trolling crawlers are finding fish on bottom in 35 feet of water and some are suspended. Crawlers and crankbaits are both producing. Bass fishing has been good for smallies on East and West Grand Traverse Bays. Drop-shot rigs fished in about 25 feet of water have been catching fish. Stream trout anglers are switching to terrestrials and catching browns and brookies.

Frankfort Area
Rough weather had boat anglers trolling the harbor and the channel on Lake Michigan. They did manage to catch a few chinook and steelhead. The chinook were hitting in the top 50 feet. Down at Onekama, cool water was reported throughout the area and anglers were having trouble finding temperatures over 46 degrees. Lake trout were hitting Spin-N-Glos fished off the bottom at The Barrel. Chinook were found up high.

NORTHEASTERN LP
Houghton Lake Area
Anglers are catching a mixed bag on Houghton Lake including walleye, bass, rock bass, and a few crappies and perch. Leeches seem to work better than crawlers. Hot colors were fire-tiger, pink and purple. If the bite is slow, take the blades and flashers off and just use a single hook under a bobber fished along the drop-offs.

Rogers City Area
Fishing has been a wild ride on Lake Huron as conditions were changing daily, even hourly. Windy conditions and strong currents had surface waters down to 50 degrees one day and back up to 68 the next. It all depends on wind direction. The fish are scattered so most anglers were running their lines throughout the water column in 20 to 120 feet of water.

EASTERN UP
Pickford Area
Walleye fishing has been good in eight to 12 feet of water in the St. Mary’s River on the north side of Lime Island. Those fishing crankbaits early or late reported the best action Those trolling a crawler harness and bottom bouncer over the rock piles at Round Island caught walleyes, too. Cisco catches were very good around the islands on the Drummond Island side of the river. Brown or red tear-drops tipped with a wax worm or natural Caddis fly baits worked best.

Drummond Island Area
Walleye fishing has been decent in Scotts Bay. Those fishing crawler harnesses or stickbaits report good success. Bass are hitting nightcrawlers in Maxton and Scotts bays and a few perch have been caught in Maxton, too. Pike fishing remains good all around the island. Cisco are still hitting in Pike Bay on the south end of the island. Teardrops and wax worms drifted in 20 feet of water have produced the best results.

CENTRAL UP
Marquette Area
Fishing pressure was down on Lake Superior last week after the cold windy weather. Before that, good numbers of lake trout were caught when trolling near Granite Island. Orange was a good color. The bite was good out near Stannard Rock however they were not getting the large fish that the reef is known for. Stream anglers are catching trout on terrestrials and streamers.

Escanaba Area
Walleye anglers reported spotty catches in Lake Michigan’s Little Bay de Noc. Most were targeting the Escanaba River area or south near Breezy Point. Anglers are still reporting a lot of undersized fish in the Escanaba River but better reports from the Black Bottom when trolling or drifting a crawler harness in 14 to 26 feet of water and near Breezy Point in 16 feet. Good perch catches were reported off the mouth of the Escanaba River in 18 feet of water.

WESTERN UP
L’Anse Area
Fishing has been good in Lake Superior’s Keweenaw Bay. Lake trout, kings and brown trout are hitting in 30 to 50 feet of water. Good action has been reported by those jigging off Point Abby. Fin spoons have also caught fish. Stream anglers are catching good numbers of trout on live bait and terrestrials.

Bergland Area
Walleye, perch and bass are hitting on Lake Gogebic. Mayflies seem to have let up and fishing overall is much better. Walleye are hitting crawlers and leeches fished in 18 to 25 feet of water. Some perch are being caught in those same depths. Perch, walleye and bass are also coming from 8 to 12 feet of water in the weeds and weed edges. Smallmouth continue to come from any rocky hard bottom areas, as well.
