Cold can get the best of any camper. Whether it’s unseasonably chilly overnight or relentlessly cloudy and cool, low temps can sap your body temp — and your love of the outdoors.
That’s exactly the predicament the folks at Sierra Madre Research (SMR) tackled when developing the Hot Pocket. Equipped with twin electric heating pads, the Hot Pocket works as a stuff sack or heating pad.
The Hot Pocket is cordless, rechargeable, solar panel-compatible, and live now on Kickstarter. With still a whole month to go, it’s already reached its funding goal 10 times over!
Hot Pocket Heated Stuff Sack
A heating pad makes sense, but why a stuff sack? That’s apparently the major selling point behind the Hot Pocket. By making it convertible into a stuff sack, SMR effectively allows users to preheat their sleeping bags. And the apparent beauty is that it’s a piece of gear you probably carry anyway, but this one is also a heating pad and a power bank.
A single button activates the heating element. SMR claims the Hot Pocket will raise the temp of a sleeping bag up to 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Two side buckles and nylon straps handle compression, and a zipper opens the sack up for use as a lay-flat heating pad. The brand recommends this feature for extra comfort on planes or car rides, or as added warmth inside your sleeping bag.
The Hot Pocket automatically shuts itself off to prevent excess heating. On top of that, the brand says it provides up to 6 hours of heat and recharges in 90 minutes. Plus, it can be used as a power bank with enough juice for four iPhone charges.
The Hot Pocket comes in three sizes: small, medium, and large. Size small fits a 30-degree down or 40-degree synthetic bag. Size medium fits a 20-degree synthetic bag or 30-degree down top and underquilt. And the large fits a 0-degree synthetic bag or 0-degree down top and underquilt.
The Hot Pocket will retail between $139 and $179 depending on size. But it’s live on Kickstarter now with early-bird discounts.
