NORTHCENTRAL REGION
From the Game Commission
Lycoming County Game Warden Harold Cole reports that, unfortunately, he had to euthanize a habituated female bear, and her three yearlings might face the same fate. Cole said the female bear and her three yearlings had been fed by people so much they were frequenting houses – even entering them – on a regular basis, creating a huge public safety issue. Bears concentrate on houses that offer them things like garbage, compost, birdseed or food that’s intentionally placed out because it’s easier than looking for food in the mountains. Cole he’s had several reports of these yearlings hanging out at houses and walking up to people, which would indicate they also present risks.
