Good water filter for two people?

My husband and I are doing our first multi day hike later this month. The place we're traveling through has giardia and cryptosporidium though, so I know we'll need a water filter and don't want to fuss with boiling the whole time. I'm looking for a hand pump less than two lbs, we usually carry a half gallon of water each (in old milk jugs if the bottle mouth size is relevant, although that's easy to change). Im asking here because I don't want some honking piece of unwieldy equipment meant for several folks, but I also don't want some tiny thing meant for one person that I'll be squeezing away at forever just to get a single gallon.

Also, experiences with esbit stove? My husband used one during his time in the military but couldn't tell me if it gives the food a bad flavor because the food he was cooking was already bad apparently...but I know the tablets give off a weird scent. However it seems really light and efficient, easy to use and less waste than gas canisters.
