Associate Audience Engagement Editor
We're looking to hire an associate-level audience engagement editor with a strong editorial background who isn't afraid to shake things up. The primary focus of this audience team member will be growing our newsletter program, but they’ll also contribute to our social media platforms. In addition to newsletter duties, this person will schedule Facebook and Twitter content several days per week, provide smart headline recommendations for all new stories, and manage weekly programming for two of our Facebook groups.
Growing and managing the editorial side of Outside’s newsletter program, including writing, editing, building, and scheduling newsletters and producing voicey, on-brand copy for products such as re-engagement campaigns and welcome series.
Workshopping display headlines alongside the rest of the team for all digital content and scheduling stories in our CMS for publication on the site.
Scheduling content for all social channels (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) using both native platform publishing as well as third-party tools like SocialFlow.
Reporting and tracking growth using metrics from social media and newsletter dashboards, Google Analytics, and Chartbeat.
At least two years of full-time editorial experience at a digital publication.
Basic Photoshop, HTML, and Google Analytics experience. Experience with SocialFlow a plus.
Experience using newsletter services such as CampaignMonitor, MailChimp, etc.
Strong writing chops and ability to produce clean copy quickly.
Passion for and experience with outdoor sports and news.

Editorial Production Fellow
Outside is hiring for a six-month paid editorial production fellow to join the online team. This person will work closely with our editors to present all online content in a clean, timely way.
Responsibilities include tackling both daily and long-term production needs for the brand. You will spend time building articles in our CMS, helping with our daily newsletters, searching for photos to accompany our stories, and sitting in on a variety of pitch meetings.
Applicants must be proficient in Adobe Photoshop, have experience navigating a content management system (we use Drupal), and have a basic understanding of HTML. An eye for copy editing and headline writing is also important. Previous experience as a producer is a plus, but if you're motivated, detail-oriented, and a fast learner, we encourage you to apply.

Digital Ad Operations Director
Outside is looking for a Digital Ad Operations Director in our Boulder, Colorado office. The Director leads the team that traffics and manages all online display, native, video and podcast advertising campaigns for Outside’s digital properties.
- Oversee all pre- and post-sales operations, including trafficking, campaign optimization, third party ad systems, client reporting, scheduling, and reporting
- Manage ad trafficker and campaign managers
- Manage all site and ad operations metrics, including inventory and traffic forecasting, sell through rates, viewability, ad performance, native buys
- Approve all insertion orders to ensure accuracy and compliance with internal policies
- Lead on all ad analytics and ad tech
- Drive new ad product development in conjunction with Site operations
- Own all digital ad reporting, including oversight of all monthly ad billing
- Act as liaison with content team on inventory management
- Act as liaison with development team for all ad implementation
- 5+ years of Ad Operations experience, preferably within an entertainment/media company
- Expertise in DFP, DFA, MOAT, Google Analytics, and third-party tracking systems
- Thorough understanding of online advertising industry trends & players
- Mastery of Excel
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Outside offers a paid, six-month editorial fellowship at our offices in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The next cycle starts in fall 2019; we will be considering applications for it in late summer.
As an editorial fellow, you will work closely with top editors and reporters at an award-winning magazine, with duties including fact-checking, reporting, research, and proofreading. From time to time, fellows also have the opportunity to write for the magazine and website.
An ideal candidate is passionate about the outdoors, knows the magazine well, and has some post-college professional experience working at a newspaper, magazine, or website. Outside is unable to provide work visas for those applying from outside of the United States. We also are rarely able to consider applicants who are still in college or just graduated.
